I had the same idea (i.e using ArchLinux as base system) but I don't have either the skills or the time right now to create a distro.
My few comments if you really want your project to grow and really present an alternative :
- Don't try to re-invent the wheel again : I mean, choosing Arch as base is a very good decision, but don't try to re-create new tools for managing system, etc… everything already exist in other distros if needed.
- The "user-will-learn" thing is still a geeky way of thinking : the average user wants his system to just work. So just make it THAT simple.
- fluxbox is a good choice, but still difficult to handle at first sight. If you want to propose a small efficient windows-manager that is still at the same time quite easy to use : I suggest XFCE.
- That said : Any plan to release a KDE or GNOME version ?
